❓ Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the questions we hear most often.

You can create and manage multiple share links per document — including a separate link for each recipient — so you can track engagement and revoke access independently.

Each link supports password protection, expiration dates, maximum view limits, download control, dynamic watermarks, screenshot/recording protection, email gating, and e-signatures via OpenSign. See Creating a Share Link.

🗑️ I deleted a document by mistake — can I get it back?

Yes. Deleted documents, folders, and data rooms go to Recently Deleted and can be restored for 30 days. After that, they're permanently removed.

📊 Can I recover analytics after they're deleted?

No. Once analytics pass your retention period, they cannot be restored. Export important data before it ages out. You can set the retention window in Settings.

No. Templates apply only when a link is created or edited. Existing links remain unchanged unless you update them manually.

🧭 Does changing my time zone affect historical data?

No. Changing your time zone only affects how times are displayed, not when the events actually occurred.

📄 What file types and sizes can I upload?

DocTrack supports PDF, images (PNG/JPG/JPEG), Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and CSV, with a 50 MB limit per file. Available formats can vary by plan. See Uploading Documents.

📥 How do I collect files from someone else?

Use a File Request — create a secure upload link, send it to an external user, and their files land directly in the folder you choose. No account required on their end.

Use a data room when you need to share multiple documents as one package with unified security and branding — common for fundraising and due diligence. Use a share link for a single document. See Data Rooms.

🙋 Why do some visitors show as "Anonymous visitor"?

When a link doesn't require email, DocTrack identifies visitors by an anonymous session ID. Turn on Email Requirement when creating a link to capture real identities in your analytics.
